OVPR Survey History and FAQ

Why conduct a survey? Can’t the same information be obtained just by “walking around” and asking employees?
Yes—'walking around' is one way management can interact with their employees on a regular basis. But a survey provides a way of supporting two-way communication among all employees. All employees are asked the same questions which greatly enhances the interpretation of the responses collected from the survey.

Employee surveys provide a number of useful objectives. Surveys can:
                         • Measure attitudes and opinions of employees
                         • Open up lines of communication among all employees
                         • Help the organization identify what organizational development initiatives
Can you tell me more about the survey?
In September 2008, the OVPR decided to conduct an employee survey as a continued commitment to the development of the organization and its staff. The survey’s main objective was to allow all permanent OVPR employees an opportunity to voice their opinion on employment-related topics and make suggestions for improvement with regard to the organization.
Why did we go with HR-Survey, an external consulting firm, to conduct the survey?
HR-Survey is a web based Application Service Provider that facilitates employee surveys. Since 2001, they have provided clients with superior web based surveys designed to the meet the client’s unique data analysis needs. HR-Survey also provided a number of articles and briefs related to research methodology and the research behind web based surveys. HR-Survey was also asked to conduct the survey in order to bring credibility to the survey process.
How was the survey administered?
The web-based questionnaire survey was launched in December 2008. During a four-week period, employees were contacted via an email invitation by HR-Survey. Names and employees data were not collected and no employee data was linked to employee responses. Employees without computer access completed a survey form manually. Sealed manual responses were sent to HR-Survey to be entered into the database. Employees were allowed time during their working day to complete the survey and all survey responses were handled and tabulated by HR-Survey.
