Consultation with the Attending Veterinarian

The University Veterinarian and Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) veterinarians are available to work with investigators on all issues related to animal care and use. Examples where we could provide assistance include but are not limited to animal model selection, surgical techniques and surgical planning, other procedures in laboratory animals, animal husbandry and management, biology of laboratory animals, animal facility design, pain management, search for alternatives and development of animal use protocol. We urge you to contact us for assistance. By doing so we make it easier for you to meet your research needs and at the same time allow Colorado State University to be compliant with the federal requirement of involving the attending veterinarian in the design of animal use protocols that involve pain or distress. Consultation with a Laboratory Animal Veterinarian often facilitates approval of your animal use protocol by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.

You can reach the University Veterinarian at 1-5668 or 1-7194.  The LAR veterinarian on call can be reached at 566-3414.  You can also reach LAR veterinarians by calling 1-7364 and asking for a veterinarian. Please use these resources to facilitate your research.
